May 2, 2007 – The City of West Palm Beach was recently honored with an education award by Florida Commissioner of Education Jeanine Blomberg. The City is one of three Palm Beach County education partners to receive the honor. Commissioner Blomberg honored the City for partnering with our schools and teachers to ensure the highest levels of academic excellence for our students.
“This award is a great honor for the City of West Palm Beach,” said Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “We’ll continue to stay committed to supporting our young people and helping them grow and learn.”
The award was accepted by City Education Liaison Tyvi Small at the annual Commissioner’s Business Recognition Awards in St. Petersburg. Small works in the City’s Division of Neighborhood Services.
The City of West Palm Beach has been a dedicated partner with a number of Palm Beach County schools over the past five years. Bear Lakes Middle School, Palm Beach Lakes High School, Forest Hill High School, Roosevelt Middle School, Pleasant City Elementary School, Northmore Elementary School, Grassy Waters Elementary School, Belvedere Elementary School and Palmetto Elementary School have all benefited from the tremendous partnership.
Over the years the City of West Palm Beach has provided guest speakers, advisory board members, internship opportunities, thousands of backpacks and school supplies. They have also supported the PETS (Public Employees Teaching Students) program and the “Principal for a Day” program.
