Fats, Oils & Grease (F.O.G.)

F.O.G. stands for FATS, OILS and GREASE. These are found in food ingredients like meats, fish, butter, cooking oil, mayonnaise and food scraps.  If poured down the drain or garbage disposal, F.O.G. will build up over time and clog the sewer pipes that run through your home.

HOW DOES F.O.G. AFFECT ME?
F.O.G. down the drain causes sewer backups, which may result in potential public health issues and pollution problems.

PREVENT SEWER BACKUPS…….What can I do?

1.  Pour cooled fats, oils and grease into a covered, disposable container and throw it into your garbage.

2.  Soak up remaining fats, oil and grease with a paper towel and place the paper towel in the garbage.

3.  Before you wash dishes, scrape any remaining food into your kitchen garbage can and then dispose of it in your brown garbage cart.

4.  Use sink strainers to catch any food that has been left on dishes and pots.

REMEMBER…...FATS, OILS AND GREASE GO IN THE GARBAGE, NOT DOWN THE DRAIN!
