The West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency will host the 6th annual Heat & Soul Fest in the City’s Historic Northwest District on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with an array of music, food, and activities including a health fair. The FREE family-friendly event will take place on Rosemary Ave. and 8th Street across from the Sunset Lounge (now closed for renovation).  Heart & Soul Fest invites residents and visitors to discover West Palm Beach’s Historic Northwest District and experience the true heart and soul of the city while enjoying a day filled with music and fun.

Headlining this year’s event will be Kenny Lattimore, a Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter best known for his Top 10 hits that include “For You,” “Things That Lovers Do,” and “Love Me Back.” The veteran singer, known for his sultry voice, sweet harmonies, and memorable melodies, came on the scene during the 90’s R&B resurgence and has released nine solo albums in a musical career that has spanned over 20 years. The event will also feature popular local bands including the dynamic Valerie Tyson and the soulful Andrew Luv and the Franchise Players.

In addition to an outstanding R&B music lineup, the festival offers activities for the entire family with carnival style games, face painting, children’s dance contest, and more.  Guests can also partake in a health fair showcasing resources for community members to get fit and stay healthy.  Zion Fitness will host various free stay-fit demonstrations for guests including Zumba, spinning, step aerobics, a rock climbing wall, kids’ obstacle course and more.

A new feature at the event this year will be The Hungry Black Man Foodie Row and Grand Tasting Village, in partnership with the Historic Northwest’s popular Trindy Gourmet, bringing a local-centric collection of West Palm Beach’s most talented artisans, cooks, chefs, bakers, and culinarians to the festival. Guests can enjoy a variety of gastronomic pleasures ranging from tantalizing seafood, South Carolina BBQ, African-American staples, to Caribbean inspired entrees, and topped off with decadent award-winning desserts.  Plus, the fabled Hydration Station will quench any thirst with fresh juices, sodas, and craft cocktails. The Hungry Black Man is a social media sensation featuring local foodie Starex Smith navigating and sharing the black experience through commentary on food, travel, and culture.

"Heart & Soul Fest has become one of our most popular events in the City’s Historic Northwest District bringing together the community and attracting visitors from around the city,” said Jon Ward, West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Executive Director.  “This neighborhood is experiencing a real resurgence thanks in part to all of the community input and participation in creating a significant African-American cultural center highlighting the area’s history and contributions.”

The Historic Northwest District is undergoing redevelopment of its major sites, the Sunset Lounge and adjacent park, to create a new cultural destination.  The WPB CRA is rehabilitating the historic Sunset Lounge and transforming it into the epicenter for African-American cultural tourism.  The new arts-focused destination will celebrate the famous performers who once graced the Sunset stage including Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and Louis Armstrong while keeping the jazz tradition alive with new concerts and performers.

The event will provide free shuttle service to Heart & Soul Fest from the Palm Beach County Judicial and Governmental Center parking lot, located on Banyan Blvd. and Rosemary Ave. during festival hours and through 9:00 p.m.  Admission and entertainment is free and open to the public.
