The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach is gearing up for a summer filled with reading and fun. The Summer@yourCityLibrary program encourages the entire family to read with incentivized programs, to take part in unlimited free programs and activities, and also offers free lunches for kids and teens. The seven-week program takes place June 12 – July 29 with a bevy of new activities, lectures, classes, games and more, offering kids, teens and adults a boredom-free summer.
Because kids tend to fall into the dreaded “summer slide,” the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach wants to make reading a priority for local children so they can keep up or even move ahead in school. To this end, the library invites kids and teens to read for exciting prizes. By keeping a reading log with the recommended reading times, kids and teens will receive a free best-selling book each week and be entered into a weekly gift card drawing. Adults can also get in on the summer reading and enter for their own weekly gift card prizes while modeling this important behavior for the children in their lives.
The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach will also offer dozens of popular and new activities and programs for kids, teens and adults to explore. With so many activities, games, crafts and learning opportunities to keep everyone busy, the library is the perfect destination for family staycation days, rainy days, meetups with friends, or even quality time with the grandparents. Exciting new programs being offered this summer include:
- Mad Science! Be a STEAMologist!
- Kids Can Code
- Om Yoga for Kids
- Summer Academy: Kindergarten Prep, Tutoring Sessions, and 3rd Grade FSA Prep
Teens / Young Adults
- Be a YouTube Star
- Adulting 101
- Who Do You Think You Are? Genealogy Series
- Brazilian Jazz with Treebo
- Learn to Dance Salsa
- Cardio Drumming
Additional activities include family storytime, play dates, arts and crafts, movies, games, video games, technology classes and so much more. For a complete schedule of Summer@yourCityLibrary classes and programs, visit: wpbcitylibrary.org
Free Meals for Kids/Teens
As part of the library’s commitment to eliminate barriers so the public can access important library services, the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach is bringing back free meals for kids and teens when school lunches are not available. In partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County, the library becomes an official Summer BreakSpot and offers FREE nutritious lunches and snacks during their summer program to kids and teens ages 18 and under. The lunches and snacks are offered weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor in Kidspace. This program is sponsored by the USDA Summer Food Service Program.
