Baseball bill signed by Governor

This week Governor Scott signed the legislation needed to move forward with the construction of the baseball facility at 45th street and Haverhill.

The move clears the way for planning and construction to move full speed ahead.

Downtown road closures delayed

The closures of Banyan street, Clematis street and 3rd street for construction of the All Aboard Florida service have been delayed.

The closures will not happen until sometime in July.

The INSIDER will keep you updated.

West Palm Beach Fire Rescue awarded $1.3 million

FED GRANT MEANS NEW EQUIPMENT

Congrats to WPB Fire Rescue!

They have been awarded $1.3 million dollars in federal grant dollars.

The money will be used for new breathing packs, new lost firefighter locator equipment and various types of training.

Special shout out to the hardest working Congressional Delegation that helped get the funds:

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel

U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy

U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson

The City is also still in the running for another grant to pay for more firefighters.

CBS 12 & City 'Hug it out'

Some of you may have caught the little dust up this week between the City and CBS 12.

We had different points of view regarding a story done this past week.

It happens sometimes.

What matters is that the city and CBS 12 got together after it happened and were able to constructively talk it through.

Just like any working relationship, disagreements will happen.

What matters is how you deal with them.

No hard feelings, CBS 12.

The INSIDER still considers you "the one to turn to!"

NEW PATROLS DOWNTOWN

Mayor Muoio: Downtown police must be more visible

Have you noticed more police downtown?

It's actually not more officers. They're just a lot more noticable!

Mayor Jeri Muoio announced during her Wednesday media briefing she asked the police department to make changes and be a lot more visible downtown.

While crime remains low, Mayor Muoio said that perception is also important, and she wants people to know police are around.

The move has been applauded by visitors and business owners alike.

Don't "Go East, Young Man!"

Nineteenth century american author Horace Greeley's famous advice may have been "Go west, young man."

That would be OK for the Flagler Bridge this week.  But you just can't "go east!"

This week, from Tuesday to Thursday you can't go east over the Flagler Memorial bridge from 9pm - 6am.

More FDOT repair work.

Mayor Jeri Muoio's Weekly Media Briefing

Each week, Mayor Muoio holds an on-the-record meeting with reporters free to ask questions on any topic.

The meeting, part of Mayor Muoio's commitment to continue her "Open Access" policy, is recorded so the public can see the unfiltered and unedited Q & A for themselves.
