(04/24/08)  The Greater Palm Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross will present Mayor Lois J. Frankel with a Certificate of Merit at the chapter’s annual meeting on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the National Croquet Center, located at 700 Florida Mango Road.

The Certificate of Merit is the highest award given by the American Red Cross and goes to an individual who saves or sustains a human life and has been previously trained by the American Red Cross.

The Mayor is being recognized for saving a friend’s life during dinner in May of 2007.  The friend was choking on a piece of food and was unable to breathe.  The Mayor administered abdominal thrusts and dislodged the food.
