Marathon of the Palm Beaches Announces Road Closings for Race Weekend

The Fifth Annual Marathon of the Palm Beaches recently announced the following road closures for the cities of West Palm Beach and Lake Worth for Friday, December 5 through Sunday December 7. These closures are necessary for accommodating runners along the 26.2 mile course. Race organizers are requesting residents along the route to keep the course free of parked cars and debris to provide safe routes for the runners.  

Road Closure Schedule

Friday, December 5th at 9:00 am (for Event Setup)
Southbound Flagler between Datura and Fern will close. Northbound Flagler becomes 2-way between Datura and Fern. This traffic plan could vary.
Evernia between Flagler and Post Park will close and remain closed until 10:00 p.m. Sunday. (Vehicles cannot pass through Post Park parking lot 12/5 – 12/7).

Saturday, December 6th from 7:00 am until 12:00 pm (for the 5k & Kids races)
Northbound and Southbound Flagler will close completely from Lakeview to 23rd Street.
At 9:15 a.m. Police will begin to reopen Flagler from 6th St. to 23rd St.
Lakeview to 6th St. to open at noon. Southbound Flagler will remain closed between Fern & Banyan after 12:00 p.m.
Evernia and Fern Streets will be closed east of Olive Ave to Palm Beach Post Park for local traffic only. Datura closed east of Bradley’s. S. Clematis closed east of Narcissus until 12/7 at 10:00 pm.

Saturday, December 6th to begin at 12:00 pm (after completion of the 5k & Kids races)
Flagler between Banyan and Fern – Southbound remains closed – Northbound Flagler becomes 2-way.
Evernia open west of P.B. Post Park parking lot; S.Clematis closed east of Narcissus; Fern open; Datura open. Post Park remains closed to traffic.

Sunday, December 7th to begin at 12:00 am (midnight)
Flagler will close completely between Banyan and Lakeview.
Evernia closure to extend from Flagler to the northeast corner of Narcissus but not blocking intersection of Narcissus and Evernia.  Post Park remains closed to traffic.  Fern will be closed east of Post Park throughway.
Evernia and Fern Streets closed east of Olive to local traffic only. Datura closed east of Bradley’s at 1:00 a.m. with reduced lanes east of Narcissus to Bradley’s at 4:00 a.m.

Sunday, December 7th from 3:00 am to 12:00 pm (for Marathon & Half Marathon)
Eastern WPB City roads and 1.5 miles of N. Federal Hwy in Lake Worth north of 7th Ave North to begin closing for the Marathon Route @ 3:00 am –Certain roads will re-open, under police supervision, before 12:00 p.m. as runners clear those roads.
All roads on course route will re-open to traffic by 12:00 p.m. except Flagler downtown.

Sunday, December 7th to begin at 12:00 pm (after Marathon completion)
Flagler will remain closed between Banyan and Lakeview until 10:00 p.m.
Fern, Evernia, Datura and S. Clematis no through access to Flagler until 10:00 p.m.
Flagler between Banyan and Lakeview will completely re-open by 10:00 p.m.

Bridges:

Southern Blvd. bridge to Palm Beach – closed 12/7 @ 5:00 am – 8:00 am
Royal Park Bridge (Okeechobee Rd./Royal Palm Way)  closed 12/7 @ 5:00 am – 12:00 pm
Flagler Memorial Bridge (north bridge to Palm Beach)  will remain open

About the Marathon of the Palm Beaches

The 5th Annual Marathon of the Palm Beaches will be held on December 5 – 7, 2008 and is managed by DMSE (Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises). The Marathon is part of a three-day weekend packed with race-related activities, including a 5-K, Kids-K, half marathon, Marathon Team Relay, and Marathon, as well as the two-day Publix Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, December 5, 2008 and Saturday, December 6, 2008.
