Sustainability Summit to be City’s First-ever “Carbon-Neutral” Event

When:  Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
Where:  Dreher Park, Elder’s Cove (in northwest corner of park), WPB

(02-03-09)  City of West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel will be joined by local business leaders, environmental groups and students as she announces that the City’s upcoming Sustainability Summit will be the City government’s first-ever “carbon-neutral” event.

The Mayor will make the announcement on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.  The event will be held at Elder’s Cove in the northwest corner of the City’s Dreher Park.  Attendees should use the new Dreher Park entrance on Southern Blvd. just east of I-95.

In order to make the Sustainability Summit carbon-neutral, action must be taken to offset carbon emissions.  Local students will assist the Mayor in reducing the summit’s carbon footprint by planting dozens of trees in Dreher Park.

The City will host the “e4” Sustainability Summit on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Harriet Himmel Theater in CityPlace.  The summit will engage the community and develop a City-wide “greenprint” that focuses on four “e’s”:  environment, economics, equity and energy.  The Summit is FREE of charge.  Register and learn more about the Summit at wpb.org/e4 or by calling 561-804-4980.
