City of West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel announced today that the City has been awarded a $1.8 million grant to allow for the hiring of eight (8) police officers.
“I’m very pleased to learn that our grant application was successful and we’ll be hiring eight new officers,” said Mayor Frankel. “These officers will help keep our streets and our neighborhoods safe.”
The exact grant amount is $1,785,456. The money was awarded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 under the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). The grants will provide 100 percent of the approved salary and benefits for entry level officer positions over a three year period. Police departments receiving the grants are then required to retain the grant funded positions for a fourth year.
