WEST PALM BEACH, FL –– The West Palm Beach Golf Course has been closed for a complete restoration since April. The long awaited “Grand Re-Opening” will take place on November 16th during The West Palm Beach Charity Classic. LPGA and PGA TOUR members Beth Daniel, Meg Mallon, JoAnne Carner, Kelly Robbins, Laurie Rinker, Judy Dickinson, and Mark McCumber, have been invited to be on hand to celebrate this historic gem along with Florida Marlins pitcher Chris Volstad. The special day will also feature a commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Arnold Palmer’s West Palm Beach Open victory in 1959.
The restoration, directed by PGA TOUR champion Mark McCumber, will reinforce the Dick Wilson design originally created in 1947. This former official PGA TOUR site was the host of the West Palm Beach Open in the late 50’s and 60’s. With new grass throughout, extended tees, uncommon elevations and landscaping that emphasizes the environment, the course will challenge golfers of all skill levels.
The event will begin with a Champion’s Breakfast for invited pro am participants, city and county officials and invited guests. Immediately following the breakfast will be the grand re-opening ceremony on the first tee. The public can enjoy watching golf, take a free 10 minute lesson at LPGA’s Front Row Experience on the range, try the putting contest or participate in the RMHC Junior Clinic. Be among the first to play this exciting new design and support the local community and benefiting charities – Quantum House and Ronald McDonald House Charities South Florida.
