WPB Police Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

West Palm Beach, FL. –  A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive December 4, 2010 to examine all aspects of the West Palm Beach Police Department Dispatch Operations policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief Delsa Bush announced today.
Verification by the team that the West Palm Beach Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to obtain re-accreditation – a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, she said.
The public can provide comments to the assessment team by telephone.  The public may call 822-1918 on December 6, 2010 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available through the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the West Palm Beach Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

The Accreditation Program Manager for the West Palm Beach Police Department is Suzette Dodd. The Assessment Team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review policies and procedures, proofs of compliance, interview members of the agency and visit places where compliance can be witnessed and verified. The assessors are: Team Leader: Mr. David Hornyak, Risk Manager for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Columbus, OH.  Team Member: Mr. Roland Wood, retired member of the City of McHenry, Illinois Police Department.  Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report to the full Commission, which meets in March 2011 to decide if the agency is to be granted re-accredited status.
