First Lady Michelle Obama Announces Healthy Lunches Program
West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel Supports Efforts
First Lady Michelle Obama, joined by West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and public health officials, today unveiled an effort to reduce obesity in children and to improve their health. From Riverside Elementary School in Miami, the group highlighted the role the community can play in improving school nutrition. A major commitment was announced to support the use of salad bars in schools nationwide. Mayor Frankel believes healthy foods in schools is an idea with far reaching implications…”Healthy students are better learners and getting the nutrition you need early on sets you up for a better start in life. Good eating habits can help to reduce the risk of a number of health problems and eating low fat foods will help deminish the probability of becoming overweight later in life.”
This afternoon’s event was part of Mrs.Obama’s “Let’s Move! initiative to reduce childhood obesity.
