Mayor Lois Frankel at US Conference of Mayors
And will meet with President Obama
West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel is participating in a three-day meeting with other leaders from across the nation at the US Conference of Mayor’s Conference. She will hear from Cabinet officials and attend a meeting with President Obama at the White House. Much of the discussion during the meeting, including a mayors and CEO panel, will center on joblessness in U.S. cities and the need for job creation. Mayors are pushing the Administration and the new Congress to work together on strategies to help unemployed people in America’s cities, where 85% of the people in this country live.
Highlighting the meeting will be a presentation of the Distinguished Public Service Award to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley for his 22 years of service as mayor, as well as an event at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to honor the 50th Anniversary of the Inauguration of President Kennedy and his national call to service.
Speakers at the event include: U.S. HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, U.S. Senator Mark Begich (AK), House Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA) and others.
