Coleman Park Peace Fest and March
Saturday January 22, 2011 10AM
This Saturday join hundreds of residents and community leaders for a march and day long event designed to promote a sense of community and to work towards a reduction in crime. The Peace Fest at Coleman Park is the finale in a series of events funded by a grant to the City of West Palm Beach from the Quantum Foundation. This event, meant to highlight the success at bringing traditionally divergent groups together, will begin at 10 AM with a Peace Walk through the Coleman Park and historic Northwest neighborhoods.
The walk will begin and end at the Coleman Park Community Center, 1116 20th Street, and go along Tamarind Avenue between 20th and 7th Streets. The basketball tournament, for players 13 year of age and older, will begin at noon. The entertainment will begin at 12:30 with Mikeal, a guitarist who was formerly a member of the Commodores. At 2:00, poets will take the stage with spoken word. The Pangea Kidz, a local rap group, will perform at 3:15; and The Valerie Tyson Band will close the show with a two-hour performance beginning at 4:00.
