Mayor Jeri Muoio, Commissioner William Moss, FPL volunteers and City Staff began Valentine’s Day lending a hand by providing free home energy makeovers as part of the HEMI (Home Energy Makeover Initiative) event. This is the third year the City has participated in the program. Forty-nine homes have been equipped with energy-saving upgrades such as weatherstripping, compact fluorescent light bulbs, low-flow faucets and showerheads, and lifetime air conditioning filters. The improvements can save the homeowners up to 25 percent annually on their utility bills. Last year the City retrofitted homes in the Coleman Park Area. This year, efforts were in the Poinciana and Vedado Park neighborhoods.
Mayor Muoio said “It is very gratifying and rewarding to know that small changes can have a large impact on a person’s electric and energy bill. I can’t think of a better way to spend my day than by helping others.”
