Event: Homework Center @ Your City Library!
When: Open Mondays – Thursdays from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach (formerly West Palm Beach Public Library) 411 Clematis Street, 3rd Floor
Thanks to a generous grant from The Jim Moran Foundation, obtained by the West Palm Beach Library Foundation, the Homework Center is entering its second year and continues to serve the city’s elementary age children four days per week. The Homework Center is a free service providing academic support in all subject areas for elementary age children under the direction of a certified teacher. Over the last year the Library has provided academic assistance to over 200 students, a majority of whom were repeat attendees! As one grandmother stated, “My child enjoys coming to the Homework Center every day – she calls it her Special Day … The [staff] have just won her over and I am overjoyed as to how they won her over. Thank you so much for the great joy that the Homework Center has provided for us.”
Located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, the library serves the needs of the area’s young residents in a comfortable and safe environment. The Homework Center continues to provide everything from pencils and paper to kid-friendly databases and assistance from a certified teacher and professional librarians. Equipped with the latest technologies, the Center offers great learning games, software and tools. The teacher has access to professional resources and incorporates educational board games and worksheets to keep kids on track. Healthy snacks are also provided to encourage proper nutrition for growth and development. Starting in June, the Homework Center will also offer a Summer Academy for kindergarten through fifth graders to keep them academically motivated in an engaging environment while school is not in session. “The Homework Center continues to be an important program initiative in the City for our children and families to find success academically. We are fortunate and grateful for the generous support provided by The Jim Moran Foundation to allow our families access to a fully staffed and equipped Homework Center,” said Mayor Jeri Muoio.
