(West Palm Beach, FL) – As a parent, helping your teenager with homework can be quite challenging. After all, how many parents really remember what the “Quadratic Equation” is? But now, there’s a place that can help.
The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach has just opened a new Teen Homework Center. The Center is open four days per week, and has two certified teachers and a professional librarian standing by to help answer questions and provide resources a teenager needs to succeed.
“The library offers an environment that many other academic programs are not able to: an inherent atmosphere for learning and exploring information that is both flexible and friendly,” said Chris Murray, Director of the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. “With the new Teen Homework Center, the library is able to go beyond the usual homework help by offering the opportunity for teens to become lifelong lovers of reading and learning.”
The Center is funded from a grant by The Jim Moran Foundation, obtained by the West Palm Beach Library Foundation. This isn’t the first time The Jim Moran Foundation has stepped up to help school children in West Palm Beach. They also provided the funding for the library’s highly successful Children’s Homework Center, which provides the same type of homework help to elementary school children.
“My husband believed that reading is power — the power to educate, the power to explore thoughts and ideas beyond your own views and perspectives,” said Jan Moran, chairman and president of The Jim Moran Foundation. “Through the library’s children and teen homework centers, we are helping to support and encourage academic success and instill that power of reading into our next generation of leaders.”
There is no charge to take advantage of either of the homework centers. They are free services providing academic support in all subject areas on a walk-in basis. The Teen Homework Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and is located in the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach at 411 Clematis Street.
The Teen Homework Center is fully stocked to tackle just about any homework assignment. In addition to laptops and software for students’ use, the Center’s teachers have all the educational materials and tools they need. Healthy snacks are even provided to encourage proper nutrition for continued growth and development.
By coming to the Teen Homework Center, teens are surrounded by the information, resources and people that guide them onto the roads of success.
