(West Palm Beach, FL) -The bulldozers will be toppling walls! The sledgehammers will be crushing bricks! And local artists are waiting in the wings to transform a neighborhood eyesore into a beautiful new courtyard for local kids and residents to enjoy.
On Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 at 9:00am, the City of West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency will be knocking down an old auto supply building located at 552 Northwood Road to make room for a new community open space.
The new space will be used by local artists who are living across the street in the CRA’s “Lot 23″ project. The “Lot 23″ project is a newly renovated apartment building for artists to live and work. The City gives the artists a significant break on rent in exchange for teaching their craft to members of the community, from school kids to the elderly.
The more an artist teaches the community, the lower their rent becomes.
The artists will work with students from the Pleasant City Elementary School, the Youth Empowerment Center, Blue Planet Writers Room, as well as the community at large.
The space will also be available to community artists during the monthly Northwood Village Art and Wine Promenade.
