(West Palm Beach, FL) – West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio today announced her pick to be the next West Palm Beach Police Chief.
During her weekly media briefing, Muoio announced she is selecting 26 year veteran Assistant Chief Bryan Kummerlen to lead the department. Kummerlen has been serving as Interim Chief since the retirement of Vincent Demasi earlier this year. He has been an Assistant Chief for the past three years.
Kummerlen has been with the West Palm Beach police department for 26 years, and served in numerous divisions and roles as he worked his way up including Traffic Homicide, Motor Officer, Road Patrol Sergeant and Community Policing Lieutenant.
“Right now, the best thing to keep the department moving in the right direction is consistency and stability. Bryan was the chief architect of the police department’s new strategic plan, and he was responsible for implementing many of the positive changes that have taken place in that department over the past two years,” said Mayor Muoio.
Kummerlen has a Bachelors degree from Florida State University and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He is also a recent graduate of the Harvard University Senior Management Institute.
Kummerlen’s appointment will go before the full City Commission on May 27th for ratification.
