SUMMARY: Under close supervision, performs periodic (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) computer operations work to provide timely and accurate backups of automated data, generate periodic and special request runs and reports, analyze and solve computer software and hardware problems for users; and performs related duties as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order.)
  • Performs periodic (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, etc.) maintenance tests and reports for city departments.
  • Distributes reports to user departments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on hardware and software in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of information technology.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of database management.
  • Knowledge of the uses for various systems throughout the City.
  • Knowledge of the City's approaches to automation.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, and operational processes of the Oracle financial management system.
  • Skill in performing automated systems management processes.
  • Skill in workload management.
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves detailed concentration for long periods of time in a modified office environment. There may be occasion need to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree from an accredited technical school or college, with a major in computer science and two (2) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
