SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs duties associated with reading, connecting, disconnecting, installing and removing meters and other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Reads, connects and disconnects meters for various customer service related assignments including but not limited to delinquent service disconnects and customer requested services.
  2. Installs meters for customer service related assignments.
  3. Removes meters for delinquent accounts and unauthorized use.
  4. Interacts with internal and external customers mainly for the exchange of information.
  5. Prepares and completes various paperwork necessary for the daily duties.
  6. Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices.
  7. Communicates via two way radio for assignments and report of hazardous conditions found while conducting daily work and activity.
  8. Reads meters for accurate billing information.
  9. Tracks and maintains daily report of work activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read meters and be able to locate them.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used to install, connect, disconnect and remove meter.
  • Knowledge of the service area geographies.
  • Skills in using hands tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, shovels and meter keys.
  • Skills in identifying hazardous situations and reporting these via two-way radio.
  • Skill in using mathematical computations.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communications.
  • Skill in following written and oral instructions.
  • Skills in customer relations, handling irate customers and problem solving.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers inside and outside the work group.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves considerable physical activity generally in outdoor setting with exposure to insects, dogs, snakes and other hazards. There is frequent need to walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position requires more than an occasional need to lift or move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). This position also requires the use of City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicle safely and have an acceptable driving history. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFCATION: High School diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
