SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs duties related to the planning, implementation, and coordination of education initiatives for the City of West Palm Beach including outreach programs, business-government partnerships. Acts as liaison to the schools in West Palm Beach; may perform related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Works in partnership with the school district, higher education, neighborhood associations, business and community agencies to link resources to schools.
  2. Meets with school site staff to determine needs and helps to link those resources to school site.
  3. Develops and implements on-going outreach programs with the business community and non-profits to strengthen partnership with schools.
  4. Continues to coordinate and expand the existing educational outreach initiatives, projects or programs.
  5. Maintains and coordinates Mayor’s Youth Council meetings and activities.
  6. Provides continuous public relation efforts to improve and maintain the public image of the City of West Palm Beach schools.
  7. Develops special collaborative projects and programs with school sites to enhance student achievement
  8. Develops and maintains a City education information web .
  9. Prepares reports as needed.
  10. Represents the City in designated neighborhood and community meetings.
  • Knowledge and skills using computerized systems and related software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Education, Health and Human Services, or related field, and three (3) professional working experience, working with schools and with educational issues, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
