Parking Meter Technician

SUMMARY: Under close supervision, provides technical support in the installation, maintenance, and repair of parking meters, garage equipment and other parking devices; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Installs, repairs, and maintains parking meters.
  2. Installs, repairs, and maintains parking equipment.
  3. Uses hand held computer devices to collect inventory and audit data and to enter repair data for meters.
  4. Uses small and large tools in the performance of the duties.
  5. Completes proper paperwork to keep accurate repair records and to certify timing accuracy of meters.
  6. Maintains parking facilities and stripes parking areas as needed.
  • Skill in repair and maintenance of small and large mechanical and electronic meter and other devices.
  • Knowledge of mechanical repair and basic tool operation.
  • Ability to use a two-way radio.
  • Ability to write legibly and maintain service records.
  • Ability to fabricate special purpose tools and repairs.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of parking meter construction, design and repair.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year technical experience in equipment repair, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
