Printing Equipment Operator

SUMMARY: Under close supervision performs technical duties to produce a wide variety of printed materials used by the City; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Photocopies requested documents, forms and reports.
  2. Lays out and prints materials and reports requested by departments.
  3. Typesets and prints all commonly used City forms, business cards and stationery.
  4. Cuts, folds, and binds documents and reports as needed.
  5. Stocks inventory of printing and copier supplies.
  6. Responds to customer inquiries about print or photocopy jobs.
  7. Assists in design of print materials.
  8. Delivers finished product to users.
  • Knowledge of practices, techniques and procedures used in printing and photocopying.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and layout.
  • Skill in using print shop machinery, equipment, and supplies.
  • Skill in using computers and standard application software associated with layout and typesetting.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in following written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves light to moderate work in a print shop setting which may include a dusty and dirty work environment, noisy mechanical equipment and printing chemicals. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma, GED, or vocational/technical school in related area and two (2) years of typesetting or printing experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
