SUMMARY: Under close direction, provides assistance to children crossing the street; maintains children’s safety in traffic; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Assists children crossing streets.
  2. Adheres to regulations and guidelines governing school crossings.
  3. Ensures safety of pedestrians using assigned cross walks.
  4. Prepares reports on suspicious activities or persons, speeding cars, etc. for supervisor review.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings.
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices.
  • Skill in dealing with the public, especially children.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves light to moderate work in an outdoor environment. There is frequent need to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An eighth grade education, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to pass State of Florida Exam.
