SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs duties to interface specialized meter reading software with utility billing system for the purposes of billing utility customers; supervises Water Meter Readers; assists with Cross Connection Backflow Program; performs related administrative functions and other job related tasks as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Performs duties to upload and download customer information to meter reading devices via specialized software for utility billing purposes.
  2. Prepares various computerized ad hoc reports related but not limited to meter reader errors, reading time, travel time etc.
  3. Prepares, assigns and maintains meter readers reading schedule and assigns other daily activities as necessary.
  4. Assists with the City Backflow and Cross Connection Program by field testing backflow prevention assemblies and inputting data and report information in specialized backflow software.
  5. Frequently interacts with internal and external customers regarding meter reading and backflow prevention concerns.
  6. Performs all other related duties as trained and assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves generally sedentary to light work in an office setting and occasional physical activity in an outdoor setting with exposure to insects, dogs, snakes and other hazards. There is frequent need to walk, sit, talk, hear, use repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers, feel or operate objects, tools and reach with hands and arms. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position requires more than an occasional need to lift or move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Hand and eye coordination is necessary to operate office equipment. This position also requires the use of City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicle safely and have an acceptable driving history. MINIMUM QUALIFCATION: High school diploma, GED, or vocational training and two (2) years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in meter reading and backflow prevention assemblies. Backflow Prevention Testing Certification and Backflow Repair Certificate required, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment. A valid State of Florida driver’s license is required.
