SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, provides specialized electrical services in the installation, maintenance and repair of street and municipal lighting and other equipment throughout the City; and performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Installs, maintains and repairs streetlights utilizing a boom truck.
  2. Installs, maintains and repairs or replaces photoelectric control relays for lighting circuits on 110v and 480v services.
  3. Troubleshoots problems involving underground electrical wiring.
  4. Provides electrical services, including the installation of 3-phase service, for sanitation compactors and other applications.
  5. Installs new electrical services for lighting and/or load centers.
  6. Provides electrical support for parks throughout the City.
  7. Climbs utility poles in easements to install or repair service drops.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical services and repairs to street lighting and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools necessary for the installation, maintenance and repair of street lighting and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Skill in operating a boom truck.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and three (3) years related experience required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license and CDL Class B with air brake certification, is required.
