SUMMARY: Under close supervision, coordinates the activities of the City Store and provides information to the public about the City and downtown merchants; may perform related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
  1. Sells merchandise in-store and during special events while providing excellent customer service.
  2. Provides information to the public about the City and downtown merchants.
  3. Makes recommendations on new items and notifies supervisor of items needed for re-stock; maintains inventory records.
  4. Opens, closes, operates and balances cash register on a daily basis; prepares bank deposits.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of retail sales.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping or basic accounting methods.
  • Knowledge of payment processing and receipt processing procedures.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and cashiering.
  • Skills in customer service.
  • Skill in using computer and software applications for accounting transactions.
  • Skill in using common office machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:There is frequent need to stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, lift light to moderate heavy objects (up to 25 pounds), reach with hands and arms and perform other similar actions through the course of the work day. This position may also require the use of City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving history. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and one (1) year retail work experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
