POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING PRODUCT APPROVALS FOR ROOFING/REROOFING PERMITS

Effective Date November 5, 2004

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Manufacturers of roof coverings and systems, intending to market, sell and/or install products in the City of West Palm Beach, shall show evidence of compliance with Chapter 15 of the Florida Building Code, 2004 edition as amended by the State of Florida. Compliance is demonstrated as outlined in Rule 9B-72, Administrative Code, Product Approval. This rule may be found at <http://fac.dos.state.fl.us/faconline/chapter09.pdf>

Compliance with the above shall require all applicants to submit a current State of Florida Product Approval to the Construction Services Department of the City of West Palm Beach.

PROCEDURES

The following requirements are applicable to all roof and reroof permit applications.

1. The square footage of each roof product used shall be stated on the Permit Application Form for value calculation purposes.

2. The roof slope, mean roof height, roof deck type and the proposed roof system/type reference shall be stated on the Permit Application Form. The description shall also state whether the permit is for a new roof, tear-off or recover (roof-over).

3. The permit application shall include two copies of each product approval page that is relevant to the project. The relevant pages are the cover page(s), system component/fastener list pages, the pages that describe the chosen assembly/system and the General (and any System) Limitation pages.

4. Statewide or local listing of the product approval shall be demonstrated by attaching copies of the Statewide listing (FL ####) cover page (see Note* below) or copies of Local Product Approval Forms to the front of the product approval document.

5. The product approval documents shall be marked by the applicant to show which options (system type, fastener type, etc.) are applicable to the project.

6. Both copies of the product approval documents will be stamped by the City. One copy will be retained for permit records and the other copy shall be returned to the applicant for posting at the jobsite.

*Note: Statewide product approvals can be obtained by performing a search on the Department of Community Affairs website: <http://www.floridabuilding.org/pr/pr_srch.asp> If a manufacturer does not have statewide product approval, they may contact this office to apply for Local Product Approval.

Adhering to this procedure will ensure that the selected products are specified and used in accordance with their design and test standards.
