This afternoon, at approximately 3:15 p.m, West Palm Beach Police Officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank, 1615 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., concerning a bank robbery in progress. The suspect, 48-year-old Miami-Dade resident, Patricia Lauren Ward was arrested at the scene after passing a note to a teller demanding $5000.00 and barricading herself in a safe room. Prior to police arrival witnesses called 911 after witnessing a disturbance inside the bank between Ward, (who armed herself with a large paper cutter) and a bank employee. When interviewed by detectives, Ward said that she committed the robbery because she needed money for a new automobile.
Ward has a lengthy history which includes 15-Felony charges and eight convictions. Ward will be transported to the Palm Beach County Jail this evening and face a judge in the morning.
