On Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014, at approximately 4:26 p.m, a report of a shooting was made to the West Palm Beach Police Department. When officers arrived at the 2500-block of North Australian Avenue, they discovered that the juvenile victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and survived.
The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred near the 3800-block of Windsor Avenue, and the motive appears to have been a carjacking–though the parties involved are acquaintances. Subsequently, a juvenile suspect (name and photo withheld) was developed and positively identified as the shooter.
Today, the suspect surrendered at headquarters, and he was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center where he faces one count of aggravated battery with a firearm pursuant to F.S.S. 784.045(1) (a) (1), and (1) count of attempted carjacking with a firearm pursuant to F.S.S. 812.133(1).
No additional information is being released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
