Urban Farming: Backyard Vegetable Growing with Fewer Pesticides and Basic Beekeeping

May 4, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Do you want to grow vegetables for your family and friends as organically as possible…even if you just have a small yard or want to grow edibles in containers?  If you answered yes, then this is the course for you. Mike Page, an avid south Florida vegetable grower, will take the mystery out of growing backyard veggies with few or no pesticides.  In this workshop, you’ll learn about growing summer vegetables in the sub-tropics and discover how to prepare your garden for next season’s harvest. Mike will offer tips and techniques on site preparation, seedling establishment, planting, maintenance, pest and disease control and harvesting. He’ll take you on a tour of our vegetable garden to show you creative ways to grow vegetables and to demonstrate natural pest control concepts. Then, learn the basics of backyard beekeeping from a pro. Take home a seedling, too. Please pre-register by calling Mounts at 561-233-1796 or 561-233-1757.
