The first step is to enroll in a Special Needs Shelter by calling your local emergency Management office and requesting an application. The second step is to fill it out and have your physician sign it. The final step is to submit it as soon as possible. We will then send you the proper information and instructions, along with a supply list. Your visit with us will start by checking in. You will then be assigned a bed and we will help you settle in. Our staff will include physicians, nurses and volunteers, and we will try to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Some of the items to be on your supply list are:
Oxygen – If you are oxygen dependent you must bring your own concentrator and oxygen supplies, we have a full time Respiratory Therapist on-site.
Personal Hygiene Items – i.e. toothbrush, washcloths, soaps.
Change of Clothes – At least three to fide days.
Medication – All of your medication, and if possible, a full 30 day supply; in addition to a written list of your current medications.
Entertainment – Cards, board games, or books.
Important Papers – that you may want to keep with you.
Special Dietary Foods – foods that may not be available at the shelter.
Air mattress and Bedding – for your caregiver.
What will be provided for you at a Special Needs Shelter:
Reclining Bed – with a mattress and bedding; there are a few options of the type of cot that you may need.
Transportation – for you, in the event that you do not drive or don’t want to drive. PalmTran will help you with loading all your supplies; we do not expect you to lift any heavy equipment.
Three Meals a Day – will be provided to you, as well as snacks.
