Project: The Styx Promenade

Explore the revitalization of the Historic Northwest District with The Styx Project, located along 7th Street between Rosemary Avenue and Sapodilla Avenue. This ambitious CRA redevelopment initiative features the construction of 9 new structures in the Shotgun style, alongside the meticulous restoration of an original Shotgun home, reminiscent of the area's rich architectural heritage.

Designed by the acclaimed architect Alfonso Hernandez, whose award-winning vision started shaping in 2018, The Styx Project is now complete. It stands as a testament to blending modern functionality with historic charm.

Following a rigorous selection process in 2022, three local businesses were awarded six of the newly constructed structures. Camile’s Flowers & Gifts, Eat’n Cakes, and A Better Way Home Care are set to enrich the community with their unique offerings. A Better Way Home Care has already opened its doors, while Camile’s Flowers & Gifts and Eat’n Cakes are undergoing tenant improvements.

In 2023, the CRA received twelve proposals for the remaining properties, culminating in a thorough review by the technical committee in January 2024. Subsequently, on February 20th, the CRA Board awarded Rohi's Readery the double structure on Lot 8 and Serene Beauty Suite the single structure on Lot 9. Both businesses are currently finalizing their due diligence processes for purchase and sales agreements.

Looking ahead, the CRA aims to complete final build-outs and host a grand opening for the vibrant Styx Promenade by Spring 2025. Join us in celebrating this milestone in community redevelopment and economic revitalization.
