ESOL Volunteer

About this Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers from the community are needed to tutor adults in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) either in person at the library, or online. The library will provide training and materials. 

Here in West Palm Beach, 32% of the population speaks a language other than English at home (2020 Census), yet English is essential for living and working in our area. The library partners with Literacy AmeriCorps Palm Beach County to offer tutoring for adults in ESOL. We often have a waiting list, as well as requests for tutoring online or outside of library hours. 

Teaching ESOL empowers individuals to bridge language barriers, embrace diversity, and unlock a world of opportunities.

Requirements

  • No experience necessary. 
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
  • We ask that volunteers commit to at least 4 months of meeting with their students for 1-1.5 hours, once or twice a week.  

Our Volunteer Needs

  • Morning — Mon, Tues, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat
  • Afternoon — Sun,  Fri, Sat
  • Evening — Mon, Tues, Wed, Thu
