Stormwater Division

 

The City of West Palm Beach Department of Public Utilities Stormwater Division maintains and operates over 125 miles of underground stormwater infrastructure. The stormwater management system includes nearly 2,500 manholes, 5000 inlets, and 11 miles of canals.

Students from Palm Beach Atlantic University's acclaimed community service 'Workship' program paint a Storm Drain on National Stormwater Day, November 16, 2024.  The painting event was used to educate the community on preventing litter and debris from entering storm drains.

The Stormwater Operations & Canals Maintenance division maintains the city' stormwater drainage systems, by inspecting, repairing and removing pollutants from the city's drainage canals and stormwater drains. They also monitor for and work to lessen or eliminate the occurrence of illegal discharges into the city's waterways.

 

Our stormwater drainage system plays an integral part in protecting against floods by collecting, storing and conveying runoff generated during rainfall events, allowing rain to flow appropriately during rainfall events, reducing risks to our citizens and their property.

West Palm Beach Stormwater Division sweeps over twelve thousand miles of our roads annually, enhancing public health and safety. Street sweeping reduces the presence of debris, glass, and other potentially hazardous material on our city roadways. Street sweeping improves water quality by preventing tons of debris from entering the stormwater system.

 

 

Stormwater employees are trained in day-to-day operations and storm system equipment. They must obtain a level “C” Stormwater Operator Certification and a CDL License. Safeguard your home and help protect the environment.
