The City Of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department is a member of the U.S. Water Alliance
, and is moving toward the concept of One Water Management.
"Water is valuable, renewable and integrally connected to decisions made on the land, in the watershed, and within communities. The 21st century poses increasing demands on its available quantity and quality. Population growth, urban development, land use and climate change, among other factors, make water management one of the most significant challenges facing societies today. As science and engineering have advanced, so has our understanding of natural systems and management strategies to better conserve, protect and use this precious resource. Quality and quantity efficiencies are being found in more holistic approaches to water, with green infrastructure complementing gray and centralized systems working in concert with decentralized systems. Promising technology and innovations in resource recovery as well as the expansion of water reuse programs have the potential for creating sustainable and thriving communities." - One Water
Millions of Gallons (MG) Saved Through Our Programs
The City's Water Conservation Programs strive to reduce the demand for water in a phased manner that will not only reduce water consumption but reduce utility bills and help to orient people's behavior in a way to conserve resources. The programs address Water and Resource Conservation goals within the City’s Sustainability Action Plan through increasing education and awareness within the community and providing vouchers for High Efficiency Showerheads, Faucet Aerators and Toilets to both residential and commercial customers within the WPB Public Utilities service area. This results in real water and monetary savings for the community while reducing demand side water use. These programs go hand-in-hand with our PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy), D.O.E. Better Buildings Challenge and D.O.E. Better Buildings Challenge Water Pilot programs.
Developed by the Southwest Florida Water Management District in 2002, Water Champ is a free public education program that helps hotels and motels save water, improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. West Palm Beach has successfully implemented this program and over 50% of WPB hotels/motels are participating.
