City Nature Challenge

City Nature Challenge 10 year anniversary - What will you discover?

Join the South Florida City Nature Challenge! April 25 - May 4

Help us show the world how amazing our city is for people and nature by joining us in an epic contest to discover and record as much wildlife as possible over four days (April 25 - April 28, 2025).

How to take part:
  • Download the iNaturalist app, join the "City Nature Challenge 2025: South Florida (#CNCSOFLO)" project, and record as many observations as you can between April 25th and April 28th
  • Drop in to an organized event near you
  • Get together to organize your own group walk or activity
  • Bring the Challenge to your work, school, or community organization

Your observations count toward local, national and international efforts to learn about and protect our city's amazing wildlife.

Weekend 1: April 25 - 28

Bioblitz Weekend: The first weekend is all about wildlife observations! Any observations made within our SoFlo boundary during weekend one will contribute to our efforts in the City Nature Challenge! Participation occurs through an app called iNaturalist, where you can take and upload pictures of flora, fauna, and fungi. When you upload your photo, identify the species to the best of your ability. If in doubt, leave it unidentified. Because weekend two . . .

Weekend 2: April 29 - May 4

Identification period:. . . is all about identification! Connect in person or virtually with your SoFlo peers to best identify species observed in your area. Are you familiar with South Florida species? Hop on iNaturalist and help identify local observations! Make sure to check back on your own observations, as your peers confirm your identifications and might suggest alternatives.
