WPB Stormwater Drainage Division Checking & Cleaning Storm Drains Ahead of Tropical Storm Helene
Extra crews will be out monitoring areas all week.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The City of West Palm Beach Stormwater Drainage Division is preparing for potential storms and heavy showers associated with pending Tropical Storm Helene by proactively checking and cleaning storm drains as needed. Extra crews will also monitor the situation in neighborhoods as the storm threat increases. The City is currently in contact with the South Florida Water Management District and Northern Palm Beach Improvement District as they manage stormwater canals and lakes in the western communities.
"We are monitoring tropical storm forecasts and will start putting out signs in areas experiencing storm-related flooding,” said Victor Carosi, P.E., CWPB Director of Utilities. “A tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico could still produce flooding on Florida’s East Coast.”
The Stormwater Drainage Division is responsible for capturing drainage runoff throughout the City. The division cleans and inspects the system on a routine basis, allowing staff to remedy issues before they occur.
