New FEMA Flood Zone Maps Released
Informational open houses available to discuss impact on West Palm Beach property owners

Palm Beach County will hold an informational open house Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Howard Park Community Center, 1302 Parker Ave., West Palm Beach, to discuss updated Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood zone maps. More than 1,000 properties within the City of West Palm Beach will be impacted. The open house is one of three that Palm Beach County is hosting; the others are Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Boynton Beach, and Thursday, Sept. 26, in Jupiter.

The new maps, effective on December 20, 2024, will impact several thousand Palm Beach County property owners, requiring their immediate attention!

The maps are available on the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning & Building webpage, where residents can use the countywide property search tool to determine their flood zones. The webpage also provides other important information, including links to FEMA, the pending FEMA flood maps, municipalities affected, tips on how the county can help, and more.

Property owners who are required to have a new flood insurance policy are encouraged to obtain them as soon as possible. Anyone with an existing National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy is urged to maintain their current policy. For additional information, visit FEMA.gov.

Additionally, Palm Beach County PZB has partnered with the Palm Beach County League of Cities to schedule three public outreach open houses (listed below). The open houses will include representatives from the county, municipalities, FEMA, and the insurance industry. The public is urged to attend.

Regardless of your flood zone, the County continues to recommend that all property owners have flood insurance, because flooding can occur anywhere — and windstorm insurance does not cover flood damage. Homeowners are encouraged to contact their insurance agent or call FEMA Insurance Exchange at (877) 336-2627 to find an agent to help protect their property.
