West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James Hosts News Conference
on Protecting the City’s Water Supply

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Mayor Keith A. James will hold a news conference on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. in City Hall, 401 Clematis Street. The focus will be on protecting and securing the City’s water supply.

Mayor James and other Palm Beach County leaders will discuss an upcoming court case and the importance of the federal government not interfering with local water supply issues.

On November 20, a federal judge will hear oral arguments in the Eleventh Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals regarding the Water Resources Development Act of 2000. The Savings Clause ensures that utilities serving residents in the City of West Palm Beach, along with the 6 million residents of South Florida, get the water they need.

In 2008, the federal government began operating Lake Okeechobee on a temporary LORS08 schedule. However, it has lasted for 16 years instead of the schedule that existed in 2000 (WSE). This issue and the potential risk this creates for municipalities that depend on this water is at the heart of the upcoming lawsuit.
