Portals at One Flagler
Photo: Mayor Keith James and Artist Fred Eversley
Portals, the largest public art project by renowned artist Fred Eversley, was unveiled on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, outside of the One Flagler complex along the West Palm Beach Waterfront.
This extraordinary artwork was commissioned through a collaboration with Related Ross, The City of West Palm Beach, the City’s public Art Program (ArtLifeWPB), and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
Portals consists of eight towering stainless-steel parabolic sculptures, each standing 16.5 feet tall in a reflecting pool.
"Through this extraordinary public-private partnership, we are making public art that is inclusive and accessible to our visitors and residents — artwork that adds value to our cultural landscape and continues to mark the City of West Palm Beach as a destination for Arts & Culture," said Mayor Keith A. James.
"Portals" at One Flagler
For 57 years, Eversley has charted his own path — drawing on his background as an engineer to work with one basic shape, the parabola. Over a span of five decades, Eversley has created unique and beautiful sculptures inspired by this singular shape, which he has stated, “holds all forms of energy.”

In addition to the Portals unveiling, the dedication of Julian Abele Park was also recognized. This park is a special place designed to honor the legacy of the architect Julian Abele, the visionary Chief Designer of the famed Horace Trumbauer architecture firm. Julian Abele is one of America’s first highly recognized African American architects, who designed over 200 buildings, including Duke University and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This pivotal transformation at One Flagler further strengthens the City's commitment to cultivating arts and culture in our diverse communities.

Preserving the Lake Worth Lagoon, keeping our environment clean and beautiful, was at the heart of LagoonFest on the West Palm Beach Waterfront. It was also a chance for representatives from the City's Office of Sustainability and Grassy Waters Preserve to meet the public.
The City of West Palm Beach has implemented a new and powerful way to research and plan your project’s zoning approval and permitting needs on its website through Open Counter, connecting residents and the public with essential permitting and zoning information that is accessible whenever they need.
The “Permit Planner Portal” is available on the City’s Development Services webpage and offers tons of helpful information, walking residents, the public, and prospective business owners through their projects in a way that is easy to understand.
