SOUTH DIXIE CRASH LEAVES ONE DEAD, ONE CRITICAL
A Martin County man is dead and another remains in critical condition after both were ejected from a box truck that crashed with an SUV late Wednesday morning.
At 11:17 a.m. December 4, callers to 911 reported a bad crash with people lying on the ground in the 7300 block of South Dixie Highway. The crash occurred when a northbound 2013 GMC Yukon, driven by Robert Guerrero Reyes, 37, of Lake Worth, struck a 2019 Isuzu truck, driven by Oliver Lizandro Mateo Rodriguez, 27, of Indiantown, that was heading west on East Summa Street. Traffic Homicide Unit detectives have determined that the GMC had the right-of-way when the Isuzu drove into the path of the SUV and was struck, ejecting both men from the truck.
West Palm Beach Fire Department paramedics rushed both victims to St. Mary’s Trauma Center. The passenger from the truck, Gaspar Lopez Hernandez, 24, also of Indiantown, died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Rodriguez was listed in critical condition. Neither man in the truck was wearing a seatbelt. Reyes was not injured but the GMC Yukon was heavily damaged.
South Dixie Highway was closed to traffic in both directions through the afternoon while detectives collected evidence and took measurements on the scene. Just before 4 p.m. the road was reopened.
While the investigation is still ongoing, there are no charges pending.
