WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (April 22, 2019) -- The City of West Palm Beach’s announces its FitKids Triathlon is returning to Gaines Park for the 17th year on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Gaines Park, located at 1501 N. Australian Avenue in West Palm Beach. Triathlon is a fun and fast growing sport that combines swimming, biking and running. The event is open to youth ages 4 – 14.
The focus of the FitKids Triathlon is on PARTICIPATION rather than competition. The FitKids Triathlon will expose youth participants to USA Triathlon and the exciting world of multi sport! It also promotes physical activity which is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle.
Participants ages 4 - 6 will swim 50 yards, bike and run .25 mile, while participants ages 7 – 10 will swim 100 yards, bike between 1.5 and 3.5 miles and run .5 mile. Participants ages 11-14 will swim 200 yards, bike 4.8 miles and run 1 mile.
The FitKids Triathlon is the longest running youth only multisport event in the State of Florida! We were the first and are still going strong. Our course is designed with the utmost safety possible. The event takes place in a park that is closed to all traffic. The swim takes place in a pool, the bike is on the park road, and the run is on the fitness path. Our many volunteers are there to offer a smile and cheer to encourage the participants. The vendor/sponsor area is packed with information and FREE items. The refreshments are a tasty array of healthy food and snacks.
The City of West Palm Beach offers the FitKids Triathlon to promote youth fitness and health.  With the financial assistance of our many sponsors, we are able to make this event a high quality, low cost triathlon. Youth participants should be prepared for a great experience, bring a postive attitude, and be ready to learn firsthand about multisport!
