MEDIA ALERT - "Sandi" is on her way!
Sand will be delivered starting Tuesday, November 12 at 8 a.m.
WHO: City of West Palm Beach, and Sandi, the world’s only 35-foot-tall holiday tree made of 700-tons of sand.
WHAT: Over the course of several days, 800-tons of sand will be delivered to the West Palm Beach Waterfront by way of 10-12 truckloads daily. As the truckloads come in, Sandi goes from her humble beginnings as a few piles of sand to one of West Palm Beach’s most beloved traditions: a full-on, 35-foot tall sand tree.
As with every year, the City of West Palm Beach’s Holiday in Paradise (HIP) star of the show, Sandi – the world’s only 35-foot, 700-ton, holiday sand tree – is returning with a seasonal theme and new elements. During her off-season travels, Sandi roamed the beaches of the world in search of the big wave and has a dream of cleaning the ocean. Sandi will light up, after a month of preparations, during the Clematis by Night Holiday Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 5th, 2019. The Surf’s Up theme is expected to be a big hit with residents, revisiting guests, and first-time visitors to downtown West Palm Beach, many of whom have made Sandi part of their annual holiday traditions. Sandi will offer the public nightly music and light shows from the Great Lawn, west of Flagler Drive on North Clematis Street, through New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31, 2019.
Please consider covering the sculpting of Sandi and her friends – beginning with the sand delivery on November 12; sculpting from November 18-27; and leading up to the Holiday Tree Lighting during Clematis by Night on Thursday, December 5.
