Mayor Muoio:‘Get Out the Vote’ in Tuesday’s Municipal Runoff Election

The City of West Palm Beach will hold a uniform municipal runoff election on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 between candidates Christy Fox and Richard Ryles to elect a Commissioner for District 3. The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

While City Commissioners represent specific districts within the City West Palm Beach, they are elected citywide. This allows each citizen of our city to vote not only for their own commissioners but also for the other commissioners who serve the City. All registered West Palm Beach voters can vote in this election. It is the right and privilege of every citizen to participate in the election process.

“I encourage all voters who are registered in the City of West Palm Beach to turn out on Tuesday, March 26 for this very important runoff election,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio.

“Voting for who you want to be your voice as District 3 Commissioner is important to our community. Commissioners help shape our city’s ordinances, policies, and budgets, which affects citizens’ day-to-day lives. If you voted in the municipal election two weeks ago, turn out and vote again. If you didn’t vote, now’s the time! This weekend, call your West Palm Beach friends, and remind them of the election. On Tuesday, bring that friend or a relative or co-worker to the polls. Your vote matters!”

WPBPD Chief Mooney Announces WPBPD's 2018 Annual Report, 2019 Strategic Priorities

At a Mayor-Commission Workshop on March 18, 2019, West Palm Beach Police Chief Sarah Mooney announced the WPBPD’s 2018 Annual Report and 2019 Strategic Priorities.

Overall, the City’s crime rate decreased 16%. Homicides are down 40% from this time last year. The WPBPD’s primary focus is to decrease all violent crime and continue the success the department has had addressing property crime—which was down 21%. The November 2018 addition of the WPBPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) has had an immediate impact on addressing violent crime.  The RTCC — which includes Shot Spotter, License Plate Readers (LPR), and Live Earth— is the hub of intelligence gathering critical to the City’s crime reduction efforts.

In 2019, WPBPD will continue to focus on addressing violent crime. 2019 projects and initiatives will include coordinating with the City; upgrading and adding cameras; WPBPD’s commitment to the Homelessness Task Force; and a new program called R.E.C.A.P., which fosters improved police-community relations, particularly during incidents of gun violence.
