West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James and West Palm Beach Police Chief Frank Adderley joined Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, and representatives from more than a dozen assisting local and federal agencies in announcing Operation First 48, a multiagency task force designed to reduce violent crime in the City of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, and surrounding communities. Mayor James and Sheriff Bradshaw made the announcement at a press conference at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) on June 13, 2019.


Partner or assisting agencies include the Riviera Beach Police Department; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Federal Bureau of Investigation; U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; U.S. Attorney’s Office; U.S. Marshall’s Office; U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement; U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and several assisting agencies in Palm Beach County. Community Budget Meetings Announced

Community engagement meetings to help define priorities, shape City’s FY 2020 Budget

West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James and City Commissioners will hold a series of budget engagement meetings with the community to ensure the City’s FY 2020 budget meets the needs of our diverse neighborhoods. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend! The schedule and locations for the Community Budget Meetings are:

  • July 23, 2019, 6:00 p.m.; Fire Station #5, 700 N. Congress (District 2)

City of West Palm Beach Announces Plans for Annual 4th on Flagler



Nearly 100,000 guests of all ages are expected to show up at the City of West Palm Beach’s 31st annual 4th on Flagler celebration - many dressed in red, white and blue – and all looking forward to the time when the fireworks go ‘boom.’ The Independence Day celebration is one of the largest free events in South Florida. The event takes place along Flagler Drive from Banyan Boulevard south to Fern Street from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, and includes free live music, plenty of food and drink options – including a craft beer garden, larger-than-life games, children’s activities, the annual Military Honor Ceremony and an 18-minute fireworks show igniting over the Intracoastal Waterway. The American Legion Post 199, located in West Palm Beach’s Historic Northwest District, hosted a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting of the local veterans organization.  The West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, which houses its community Green Team in the building, completed interior renovations and upgrades to the community room, bathroom, kitchen, and office space that will enable the American Legion to continue to serve the community.  


'Teens Unite' Summer Series Announced

The City of West Palm Beach has launched the 2019 Teens Unite Series! -- a free series of summer events for youth ages 12 to 18. The program was created in collaboration with several youth development programs and community centers in the north end of the city. The events will feature free social activities, such as music and dancing, pool parties, video games, creative workshops, movies, basketball, a talent showcase, and more! New Technology at Grassy Waters Preserve Links ‘Citizen Scientists’ to Bird Network

Thanks to IBIS Charities Foundation and Grassy Waters Conservancy, Grassy Waters Preserve Visitors Enjoy e-bird Trail Tracker Kiosk



Grassy Waters Preserve of West Palm Beach offers more than 20-square miles of wetlands, home to 120 species of birds including Snail Kites, Glossy and White Ibises, Limpkins, Bald Eagles and more! Now, birders and ornithologists have another resource with which to observe and appreciate the Preserve’s birds: the e-Bird Trail Tracker Kiosk.


Located inside the Preserve’s Nature Center at 8264 Northlake Boulevard, the kiosk lets visitors:

  • Find bird sightings at the location;
  • View photos, audio, and life histories;
  • Record their own bird observations;
  • Get sightings at other locations;
  • View websites, cams, and area attractions.
