City of West Palm Beach Honors

Lauren Berkson, Hometown Hero

The 4th on Flagler celebration has become known for its inspiring fireworks show and for the seventh consecutive year, the Hometown Hero award. This year’s Hometown Hero is Lauren Berkson, who is the daughter of Captain Joseph M. Berkson, a United States Army Ranger who was killed in Vietnam in 1972. Berkson has most recently led the project to build the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Trinity Park along Flagler Drive – slightly south of where the 4th of July celebration will take place. We are grateful to Lauren for her contributions to Gold Star families in our area and look forward to honoring her Thursday.

City's Water Treatment Plant

to Flush Lines with Chlorine Starting July 15, 2019

Dear Valued Utilities Customer:

To maintain high water quality in the City’s water distribution system, the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department will temporarily modify the disinfection process used to treat our drinking water. The City will use a somewhat stronger disinfection process to produce chlorine residual instead of a chloramine residual from July 15 – August 2, 2019. The City will increase hydrant flushing during this time. This is a preventative maintenance process.

Customers served by the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor in their tap water during this period. These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects.

If you are especially sensitive to the taste or odor of chlorine, keep an open container of drinking water in your refrigerator for a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate.

Users of home dialysis machines, owners of tropical fish and managers of stores and restaurants with fish and shellfish holding tanks are advised to seek professional advice, as the method for removing chlorine residuals differs from removing chloramine residuals from tapwater.

Should you need more information on this temporary change in the water treatment process, please call the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department at (561) 822-2210.

The City of West Palm Beach drinking water continues to receive high marks from monitoring agencies. To view the  City’s annual water quality reports, which inform you where your water comes from and what’s in it, please visit: wpb.org/WaterReport.
